Parks Agreement Will Improve Coordination

Two members of the Executive Council on Biological Diversity, the state Department of Parks and Recreation and the National Park Service, have signed an agreement to improve coordination of park stewardship and administration in three regions of shared responsibility: the North Coast redwood country, San Francisco Bay area, and the Santa Monica Mountains.

A memorandum of understanding signed in May by Director Donald Murphy of the Department of Parks and Recreation, and Stan Albright, western regional director of the National Park Service, was the result of a joint task force that identified ways to enhance cooperation, promote administrative efficiency, and improve park visitors' experience. The agreement will be reviewed after its first year to ensure that it is achieving the intended results.
