Ewing Leaves CDF

Robert Ewing, who served more than three years as staff leader of the California Biodiversity Council, resigned in December to become director of timberlands strategic planning for Weyerhaeuser Company in Tacoma, Wash.

Ewing, a natural resources policy strategist, was chief of the Strategic Planning Program of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) since 1992. In that capacity, he led the Biodiversity Council staff and helped to oversee the inception of CERES, the California Environmental Resources Evaluation System, which coordinates natural resources data electronically for public use.

Previously, Ewing headed the CDF's Forest and Rangeland Resources Assessment Program for seven years, conducted economic research for the U.S. Forest Ser vice, and worked for the National Council on Gene Resources, and 1000 Friends of Oregon.
