Lake Tahoe License Plates Coming Soon

Lake Tahoe license plates will be issued in 1996, helping to support environmental and recreational improvement at the lake, such as erosion control, habitat protection, wetlands restoration, and hiking and biking trails.

More that 5,000 people paid $50 each to buy the colorful license plates, meeting the minimum sales required by law for the Department of Motor Vehicles to manufacture them. The plates feature snow-capped Mount Tallac rising above a blues lake framed by a green pine bough. The DMV will issue the license plates in the summer.

Revenue from the license plates sales will help the California Tahoe Conservancy carry on environmental projects to preserve the water quality of the lake, acquire land for habitat, and improve recreational access.

The plate can be purchased by calling 916-542-6006.
