Two State environmental license plates need your support
The Coastal Protection license plate, featuring a whale tail, benefits the California Coastal Commission's Adopt-A-Beach Program and Coastal Clean-Up Day, and the State's Environmental License Plate Program.

The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary license plate, which is sponsored by the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments, benefits both the nation's largest national marine sanctuary and the
Environmental License Plate Program. The plate pictures a sea otter.
Each of the new license plates costs $40 in addition to the usual registration fees required by the Department of Motor Vehicles. If either plate fails to achieve 5,000 sales before the end of 1996, it will not be authorized for production by the DMV.
The Yosemite and Lake Tahoe license plates are the only specialty environmental plates that have qualified in the past.
