Friends of the River
has published a 20-page report entitled "Rivers Reborn: Removing Dams and Restoring Rivers in California." This publication looks at more than two dozen dams that have been identified for removal or decommission. The report may be downloaded from their website. The latest CALFED Bay-Delta Program publication, a draft of the Water Management Strategy Evaluation Framework, is available on the CALFED website. Other publications can be downloaded on the site, along with information on programs and public meetings.

The Silicon Valley Environmental Partnership has published its 1999 environmental index for the region. This index provides the most current data available on trends in resource use, population, air and water quality, species and habitats, and the use and release of hazardous materials in the Silicon Valley. The report can be viewed online. Print versions are being distributed by the Peninsula Conservation Center Foundation, and may be requested by sending an e-mail or telephoning (650) 962-9876.

A wide variety of reports have been published by the Agricultural Issues Center at the University of California, Davis. Their most recent report is "California Farmland and Urban Pressures: Statewide and Regional Perspectives," which provides a comprehensive view of the state’s farmland protection problem. The Oregon State University Extension Service has produced a video called "After the Rain: Urban Runoff." The video is designed to help communities deal with increasing threats to water quality. "Pampas Grass: Managing an Invasive Alien Species" is available from Xenobiota Xposures. The 23-minute video introduces viewers to the problem of invasive plants then focuses on manual methods of controlling Pampas grass. It also includes modules on chemical control and the use of heavy equipment. Production was funded by a grant from the California Exotic Pest Plant Council.
