CA CRMP hires New Program Director

Since the fall of 2000, Dana Helfer served in an exemplary fashion as the Program Director for the California Coordinated Resource Management and Planning (CA CRMP) Program. Ms. Helfer is now pursuing her higher degree full–time at the University of California, Davis.

Mondy Lariz, CRMP Program DirectorNot to worry, though: a new shepherd has come on board for CA CRMP. Mondy Lariz, the sole staffer for CRMP, is housed at the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts. He is available to make presentations about CRMP, work with groups or group coordinators on a variety of organizational issues, suggest appropriate technical resources, or assist in networking with other CRMP groups.

The CA CRMP Program was formed in 1990. It is a statewide partnership of 15 state and federal natural resource agencies and 14 organization sponsors in California that support, encourage, and educate about the use of the CRMP process. Coordinated Resource Management & Planning (CRMP) is a model voluntary, locally–led planning process that has proven to be successful in the management of natural resources and is rapidly gaining acceptance nationwide as an essential tool in managing public and private land. It brings all interests, both private and public, together to establish common goals and to resolve issues as a team.

When asked why he took this new position, Mondy said “I feel that CA CRMP as a process is the key to empowering hundreds of grass–roots groups to successfully manage the natural resources of our state”.

In other ventures, Mondy serves also as Conservation Chair for Flycasters, Inc. and the California Fisheries Restoration Foundation. He also sits on the Board and executive committee of the Northern California Council Federation of Fly Fishers (NCCFFF); Flycasters, Inc.; and the ED foundation that funds the Steelhead Trout Education Program in Santa Clara County, a thematic K–12 education program.

In closing, Mondy had this to say, “I am proud to be associated with the agencies that have made a commitment to the MOU, which formed the CA CRMP Council, and I will do my best to help the Council grow”.
